Volunteering at the Norfolk SPCA

We had a great presentation last night from the Director of Volunteering, and several of the volunteers at the Norfolk SPCA.

Volunteering is easy, and rewarding. You don't need to spend gobs of time, and the staff make it simple and fun. If you are a high school student looking for community service experience, this is a great place to get it. If you are a military spouse and feeling alone while your husband or wife is deployed, working with animals can be great therapy!

Norfolk SPCA 10/6/2010 - Kittens and Puppies!

Today we visited with Melissa, who introduced us to some wonderful cats and kittens, and then with Susan who had nine beautiful 4 week old puppies. These puppies will be ready for adoption in four weeks. Come on down now to reserve one for adoption!

At the end of the session, Nicole and Michelle showed us some simple dog training using positive reinforcement.

It was hot at the SPCA this afternoon - the cat room had no A/C! But Melissa and Susan spent some time with us showing off some beautiful cats and a couple of really sweet Chihuahuas.

The sound is a bit odd because there was a strong fan right behind the camera.

VA Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli II

VA Attorney General Kenneth Cuccinelli II visited Hampton Roads yesterday and agreed to spend some time with business leaders and other interested parties at the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Cuccinelli gave a wide-ranging talk and answered questions.

In all, the talk lasted about an hour, which we split up into three sections. You can play them in order or out of order as you like, and you can always come back and play what you don't have time for now, later.

I enjoyed watching the SPCA staff describe their animals and how each one was a little bit different from the others. You could tell from the affection the staffers provided each cat that they enjoyed their job and loved their animals too! I look forward to future videos at the SPCA...spread the word!

These puppies and adult dogs make wonderful companions and are full of fun and love. Please consider coming down to the shelter and adopting on of our animals. They need good homes!

We've taken our kids here a number of times. They love it. Lots of open area and enough animals to keep them entertained. While it's not Free (I think $5 for kids) it's a nice zoo for a city this size. Not San Diego, but impressive. Easy to get to also given its off of Granby Street.
