At the Naro Expanded Video, we always have lots of excellent DVDs to suggest for you to rent. From the recent Hollywood titles to classic films from around the world, our selection can be delightfully overwhelming.

Here are 5 DVDs to consider:

“Diabolique” (1955)

The wife and the mistress of a cruel schoolmaster conspire to kill him, but then his body disappears. And mysterious things begin to happen to the two women. Did they really kill him? Is it his ghost? Henri-Georges Clouzot’s stunning French classic was nearly filmed by Alfred Hitchcock, so when the writers heard of this, they wrote “Vertigo” for Hitchcock.

“The Five Senses” (2000)

Ages before “Weeds”, Mary-Louise Parker starred in this Canadian gem featuring several storylines. She plays a failing baker whose Italian summer fling is coming for a visit, but since neither speaks the other’s language, the complications increase. There’s also a massage therapist whose daughter loses a client’s child, a house cleaner with a keen sense of smell searching for love, and a doctor slowly becoming deaf.

“Having Wonderful Time” (1938)

In this charming romantic comedy, Ginger Rogers goes to a camp in the Catskills where Douglas Fairbanks Jr quickly becomes the thorn in her side. The film also features Lucille Ball and Red Skelton.

“OSS 117: Lost in Rio” (2009)

The French spy OSS 117 is back in this adventure/comedy set in 1967. He’s sent to find an evil Nazi (is there any other kind?) in Brazil, and in the vein of a smarter Austin Powers, he eventually achieves his end, but not before addressing every sexist and racist attitude of the 1960s.

“The State Within” (2006)

This riveting British miniseries stars Jason Isaacs and Sharon Gless as they delve into the truth behind a terrorist attack on American soil, an attack that seems to have originated in England. It’s a brilliant political conspiracy tale that will keep you on the edge of your seat throughout.
