“After the Wedding” (2006)

Susanne Bier’s potent Oscar-nominated Danish film follows a man returning to Copenhagen to raise funds for the orphanage he runs in Bombay. While there, he’s talked into attending a wedding, where his past resurfaces, throwing his future in jeopardy.

“The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros” (2005)

Young Maximo lives with his family of petty thieves on the streets of Manila, and develops his first crush, on the kind-hearted cop Victor. As Victor’s investigations into local thefts lead him closer to Maximo’s family, the young boy is forced to make adult-sized decisions. This was the Philippine entry for Oscar consideration for Best Foreign Film.

“Green for Danger” (1946)

Sidney Gilliat’s amusing mystery takes place at a rural British army hospital during World War II. After a bombing, a local postman dies on the operating table, but when one of the nurses claims it was murder, and then she’s found dead, suddenly the entire surgical team is under investigation. Can the Scotland Yard investigator find the killer before there’s another murder?

“Sorry, Wrong Number” (1948)

In this gripping film noir, Barbara Stanwyck is an invalid who overhears a murder plot on the telephone. She takes it upon herself to save the unknown innocent victim and begins a frantic race to stop the killers. “Sorry, Wrong Number” is a great entertainment with a shocking ending.

“Stephanie Daley” (2006)

Stephanie Daley is sixteen and charged with the murder of her just-born infant. A newly-pregnant psychologist is hired to find out the truth, prior to trial, and finds herself drawn into Stephanie’s story. This is a powerful film starring Amber Tamblyn and Tilda Swinton.
