We had a great presentation last night from the Director of Volunteering, and several of the volunteers at the Norfolk SPCA.

Volunteering is easy, and rewarding. You don't need to spend gobs of time, and the staff make it simple and fun. If you are a high school student looking for community service experience, this is a great place to get it. If you are a military spouse and feeling alone while your husband or wife is deployed, working with animals can be great therapy!

Today we visited with Melissa, who introduced us to some wonderful cats and kittens, and then with Susan who had nine beautiful 4 week old puppies. These puppies will be ready for adoption in four weeks. Come on down now to reserve one for adoption!

We visited with Nicole today to talk about how to prepare for taking a new dog home.

At the end of the session, Nicole and Michelle showed us some simple dog training using positive reinforcement.

It was hot at the SPCA this afternoon - the cat room had no A/C! But Melissa and Susan spent some time with us showing off some beautiful cats and a couple of really sweet Chihuahuas.

Today we play with some dogs in the kiddie pools outside. It's 97F and incredibly humid. Different breeds react differently to the heat and need to be cared for differently. Watch the video to learn about keeping your pets happy and healthy during the dog days of summer.
