I'm sorry to report that an old, dear friend is about to pass to the great beyond.

Yes, Dr. Demento will be no more after this weekend.

I remember listening to the good doctor when I was a young adult in the early '70s. Dr. Demento introduced me to many old favorites: Leo Kottke, Dave Van Ronk, The Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen, and so many others. I wonder how many of you remember his as I do from the earliest days. He was and is a cult phenomenon.

Dr. Demento has been broadcasting his weekly show for over 40 years now, and people are not as excited about it as they were in the old days. It's just not bringing in the revenue. I also think there's not as big an alternative music scene. Or maybe it's that I (and others?) don't consider the alternative music of today worthy of Dr. Demento.

I'm sad to see him go, but his shows and his peculiar brand of comedy, rock and roll history, and culture will always be available in the Dr. Demento Store.

Wow, Greek Fest keeps getting bigger and better every year!

I've been going to Greek Fest since the late '80s, and I have to say, this is one very well planned, very fun event, even if you're not Greek.

I spent Friday night at the event, at the Granby St. Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, eating great food, drinking Greek wine, listening to music, and watching the Greek dancers. It was terrific, but it was very crowded.

This event really brings out the community; while it has a very heavy Greek flavor with the Greek food and drink, music, dancing, and various Greek vendors of jewelry, crafts, and foods,  it is enjoyed by Greek and non-Greek alike.

I've included a few videos below of Greek music and dance. The Greek dancers are kids from the church.

See the rest for the videos (they take up a lot of room!)
